Sonar Updates: 17th Anniversary, End-of-Year Discount, New Content & Updates

I am happy to provide updates on several topics regarding SonarQube:

Celebrating 17 Years of Sonar

In an article marking 17 years since the founding of Sonar, founder Olivier Gaudin reviews the company’s evolution from a small open-source project in Geneva to a global standard currently serving over 7 million developers.

Gaudin writes that in the AI era, code quality is more relevant than ever.
While AI dramatically accelerates code writing, it creates a critical need for an independent verification layer to prevent failures and business risks stemming from automatically generated code.
The company’s success is attributed to the “Developer First” approach, Bootstrapping, and moving to real-time quality checks within the IDE.
In conclusion, Gaudin emphasizes that the Codebase is the most important asset of any organization, and Sonar will continue to lead the quality assurance field in the new era.

New: MCP Server for SonarQube

The SonarQube MCP Server is a local service implementing the Model Context Protocol (MCP), enabling direct and secure connections between AI coding agents (like GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor, etc.) and the SonarQube platform, whether running on-premises or in the cloud.

Its central role is to programmatically expose SonarQube’s code analysis, metrics, and mature feedback mechanisms within IDEs and developer tools, thereby allowing AI and automation agents to check code snippets, projects, or even pull requests in real-time.
