We wrote the following article to explain the prices and editions of Jira, and in particular Jira Software. The article is relatively short and does not include all the details. Let’s get started. Jira Software is currently offered in two deployment types (previously there were three): Cloud and Data Center.
Jira Cloud
The Jira Cloud configuration is hosted in a public cloud in the US. This is a multi-tenant cloud, meaning that your organization shares the server with other organizations (it is not your private server).
You can purchase the license with a monthly or annual payment.
Monthly payment is possible by credit card only – and requires regular monitoring on your part to see that there are no deviations or unplanned expenses due to the addition of users or add-ons.
Annual payment allows for more control and monitoring of the price. The price is also known in advance for the entire year, and the end-users of the organization cannot add users beyond the purchased quantity (and thus cause an unplanned expense). The prices are based on tiers.
The more you buy, the greater the volume discount.
Within Jira Cloud there is also an internal division into editions: Free, Standard, Premium, Enterprise, with each offering a specific set of capabilities and coming with (or without) certain support.
- Jira Free: The Free edition is a limited edition, which includes up to 10 users and a limited storage capacity of up to 2GB (for everyone).
- Jira Standard: The Standard edition expands on the capabilities of Jira Free, and includes more storage space (250GB), audit logs, and basic manufacturer support. The prices for Jira Standard are around $75 – $90 per user per year, depending on the number of users (for an accurate price quote, please contact us).
- Jira Premium: The Premium edition includes everything in the Standard and offers additions and extensions, such as advanced roadmaps, unlimited storage space, 24/7 support, more protected and secure information (e.g., via IP Allow list), Advanced Roadmap, Capacity Planning, and more. The prices for Jira Premium are around $105 – $170 per user per year, depending on the number of users (for an accurate price quote, please contact us).
- Jira Enterprise: The Enterprise edition offers additional capabilities, such as a higher availability commitment (SLA), the ability to open more instances for data compartmentalization and security purposes, and more.

Jira Data Center
The Data Center allows you to install a private Jira server, in your office or as a private machine in the cloud. This solution is also suitable for closed networks (without an internet connection).
In addition, you can also set up a High-Availability environment if the system is considered critical to you and you want a hot backup (in an active/active configuration) and the ability to set up an alternative server if the main server fails or is too busy. The licensing here is an annual subscription license.
This solution is most suitable for organizations that want full control over their Jira environment. We also offer a managed service where we will build and maintain your Jira Data Center environment for you – so you don’t have to deal with its ongoing maintenance and upgrades.
